After our hiking experience around Sapa, we headed east for the Ha Giang Loop, which undoubtedly became one of the most memorable highlights of our stay in Vietnam.

We’ve taken many pictures & made a series for each chapter below. If you click on a picture you can see the full picture & scroll through the other pictures.

Limo-bus, Sapa to Ha Giang

From Sapa, we rode by Limo-bus to Ha Giang, enjoying incredible leg space, and the ride turned out to be an adventure in itself. Vietnamese people have a gene to want to help each other out. Therefore, the driver used his bus to act as a delivery man for all the towns and villages we passed. This gave frequent stops, but was also hilarious. This resulted in frequent stops, which turned out to be hilarious, especially when the hallway was filled with 160 liters of happy water, also known as rice wine, but I would rather call it rice liquor since it contains 30% alcohol.

Ha Giang

We spent the night in the village of Thon Tha, which was only a few kilometers away from Ha Giang. During our stay, we had the opportunity to take a leisurely walk to the waterfall, where we enjoyed a refreshing swim and took in the breathtaking scenery along the way.

Ha Giang Loop

This part of our journey was something we had been eagerly anticipating for a long time. We embarked on a thrilling motorbike ride from Ha Giang, spanning nearly three full days and covering about 300 kilometers. Fortunately, we were accompanied by two experienced drivers, Yong and Tam, who knew the roads like the back of their hands and were true experts at navigating through the mountains. Along the way, we made several stops, interacting with the locals, and even reached the northernmost point of Vietnam. On Sunday morning, we had the opportunity to visit the renowned “love market” in Dong Van. These mountain towns hold weekly markets like this, which used to serve as the region’s dating site before the advent of the internet and smartphones. People from distant villages would come here to buy, sell food, animals, and various items, while also trying their luck at the love market.
