Da Zhao
Our visit began with a trip to the iconic Da Zhao Temple, a Buddhist masterpiece adorned with intricate carvings and statues. This architectural gem is a must-see for any visitor to Hohhot. We were particularly impressed by the harmonious blend of Tibetan and Han Chinese influences evident in the temple’s design.
Inner Mongolia Museum
To delve deeper into the region’s history and culture, we visited the Inner Mongolia Museum. The extensive collection provided fascinating insights into the nomadic lifestyle, the Mongol Empire, and the region’s transformation over the centuries. It’s a place where the past comes alive.
Modern City
Hohhot has undeniably undergone significant modernisation in recent years. Towering skyscrapers and bustling shopping centres stand side by side with traditional Mongolian architecture. This juxtaposition of old and new creates a unique and dynamic atmosphere.
While exploring the city, we were struck by the friendly and welcoming nature of the local people. The opportunity to experience a different culture and way of life was truly enriching. Overall, our visit to Hohhot exceeded our expectations. It’s a city that offers a captivating blend of history, culture, and modernity.
