In the days leading up to our departure from Gran Canaria, we embarked on a nearly impossible mission. Driven by determination, we combed the island, venturing from one store to the next in a desperate search for a specific item. The perplexed expressions of shopkeepers seemed to question the need for such an item in a place known for its perpetual sunshine. “Raincoats? Who needs those here?” they seemed to imply. But after days of relentless pursuit, victory was ours, and we emerged triumphant with brand new raincoats in hand.

Flight to Brussels
Arrival in Antwerp Central Station

Yesterday marked the beginning of our journey as we bid farewell to Gran Canaria and embarked on a flawless flight to Brussels, making a brief stopover in Madrid. From Brussels, we continued our expedition by train, eventually arriving in the charming city of Antwerp. Settling in our rental apartment, we eagerly anticipated putting our raincoats to the test. However, our excitement quickly turned to disappointment as the sun stubbornly continued to shine upon us. “How could we possibly assess the performance of our raincoats in such weather?” we lamented. We had two continue sipping beer on a sunny terrace for hours!

This morning, our fortunes began to change. As expected in Belgium, the sun took its leave, replaced by a somber, gray sky veiled in clouds. Around lunchtime, the moment we had been waiting for arrived with a flourish. “Yes, rain!” we exclaimed with glee. It was finally time to put our new raincoats to the ultimate test.

To our delight, the raincoats proved to be flawless. They withstood the challenge admirably, shielding us from the raindrops and leaving us dry and content. We rejoiced in their performance, knowing that they would be essential companions during the upcoming months as we venture into the rainy seasons of Thailand, Vietnam, and Taiwan.
