After exploring the ancient city of Sukhothai, we set off towards Ayutthaya, making a few absolutely captivating stops along the way.

We’ve taken many pictures & made a series for each chapter below. If you click on a picture you can see the full picture & scroll through the other picturesAt the bottom of this blog we’ve included the “on the road” pictures

Chan Royal Palace, Phitsanulok

Chan Royal Palace was constructed in the 14th century & was for a long time a royal residence. King Naresuan the Great, was born in this residence. Naresuan was a famous Thai warrior, comparable to who Caesar was in the Ancient Rome. His statue is often surrounded by Coquerel offers, symbolizing courage & fighting spirit. The palace was discovered in 1992, unfortunately only the foundations are preserved.

Wat Khiriwong, Nakhon Sawan

Another discovery! Wat Khiriwong in Nakhon Sawan. From the highway you can see this magnificent, shining temple on top of a mountain. The aroma of incense & the Buddhist chants made it: “wow, I can feel my spiritual harmony”.

Lopburi

This town is maybe most known because of its monkeys that are living around the temples & in town. Last weekend of November the Town celebrates the Monkey Buffet festival, where the Monkeys get a full buffet.

Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya, a city with a rich historical legacy, is a captivating destination located in Thailand. Once the mighty capital of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, the city boasts a remarkable blend of ancient ruins, temples, and monuments that reflect its glorious past. It is absolutely huge & imagine that all the buildings were painted & chedis were covered with gold.

On the Road

It is not all temples and stones, there was also food, some live bands and “The Story“, the gay bar in Ayutthaya with great neons, great staff and a festive atmosphere.
