Datong, a city in Shanxi Province, is a captivating blend of ancient and modern. It’s a place where the lines between old and new become blurred, creating a unique and fascinating atmosphere. But if you take a closer look, things are not always what you see. Lots of old looking buildings are still being built in an effort to “preserve” the historic town.

Datong is a perfect gateway to visit the Hanging Monastery (1.5 hour drive) & the Yungang Caves (half an hour drive). So there we went. We spent so much time over there that in Datong there was only time left for a quick walk through town, dinner & a drink.
